Welcome to The Tidelands. I am so thankful that you've landed here.
My name is JB and I've been a leadership coach and spiritual director for several years. I've lived in a few different countries and cultures around the world. I've been in both the business world and church world. And I've been in the lowest points of both. Meaning, as a life long explorer, I'm well traveled in the physical, emotional and spiritual worlds.
Though I’ve lived in multiple places around the world, my favorite place to visit is Sunset Bay State Park in Oregon, USA. This bay, or cove, with a beautiful beach, is a peaceful place to visit, swim, camp and hike. However, it becomes magical when the tide goes out. What’s revealed beneath the water’s surface is a completely different world of plant and animal life, making their home in hundreds of trees, trunks long gone, but their roots covered by seawater half of the day, invisible until the waters recede. These “ghost forests” in this particular bay or over 7,000 years old with the wood replaced by minerals over the millennia (in the pic above).
This world is alive, moving, yet most people completely unaware as they come to swim and go home before the tide goes out. But if one stays long enough for the tide to go out, and ventures into the forest that once was, they will see a world that is alive, ever moving, even though we are unaware of it. And this is why this organization is called The Tidelands.
Spiritual direction is very similar this. God is moving in our lives, even though we may be completely unaware or unattuned to the Divine’s movement. Spiritual direction is being present to oneself, becoming aware of God’s presence and movement in their lives, “under the surface,” with the help of a director.
